For some reason I have a difficult time writing and sharing about everyday life. It’s so easy to tell stories about travel, scenery, adventures. Though my day-to-day may seem less exciting to talk about, it truly is beautiful. I have days where I’m frustrated immensely by traffic and inefficiencies that come with living in a major city in Asia, and others days where I’m okay with slowing down, with finding joy in the simplest things.
I’ve found a new love and deep respect for art and artisans, for people who work with their hands. It makes me feel silly sometimes that I studied engineering to make things optimized, faster, identical when the beauty is in the imperfections, in watching a person create something with their own two hands, in taking their time. The importance of these people, of this knowledge, of this work, really only became apparent to me after spending over 3 years traveling and living in places where modern machinery and capitalism aren’t relied on to run economies (yet).
I’ve decided to begin sharing more of this simple life, this slower road, that I capture with my eyes and often my camera everyday. It’s changed me: my perspectives, my goals. I hope that by writing about it thoughtfully, I continue to understand and grow, perhaps bringing friends along with me.
